Scotia Daugherty
(Port Arthur, Texas, United States) Visual Artist
Scotia Daugherty (born 1974) is a New England based artist and educator. She received a Masters of Science in Museum Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York City. Years of teaching students how to observe, question and seek pattern and iterative design in their world inspired her to focus her eye and record her own perspective. Scotia’s paintings are multilayered images that emerge from explorations of color and texture. By exploring the concept of portraiture and landscape she investigates the interplay of color, movement, and emotion. Painting her world from an abstract impressionist viewpoint, Scotia conveys the feel and spirit of her subject within the vivid color and texture she uses to represent them. Scotia’s work is held in private collections in NYC, Houston, Dallas, and Connecticut. She currently works and resides in West Hartford, Connecticut.
